Some adoption stories feel like fate, and Patrick’s is one of them.
Patrick, a 6-year-old Rat Terrier, first came into our care in 2020 after being rescued from Benton County Animal Shelter. He was fostered by our President, Trisha, before finding what we thought was his forever home. Unfortunately, life had other plans, and in July of last year, Patrick was returned when his adopter moved out of state, believing their new environment wouldn’t be the right fit for him.
Back in Trisha’s care once again, Patrick adjusted well but faced new challenges. A traumatic incident at a dog park during the four years he was adopted left him with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), requiring careful management with pain medication. Though he wasn’t a candidate for surgery, he remained happy and comfortable most days, proving his resilience. In addition, Patrick had always displayed some guarding behaviors, especially around other dogs, making him a more difficult candidate for adoption. Despite this, he coexisted well with multiple dogs and two cats in foster care with proper diligence.
Then, in a twist that could only be described as meant to be, Patrick’s perfect adopter finally came along—someone who not only wanted a Rat Terrier but shared his very own name! When Patrick (the human) saw Patrick (the pup) on Petfinder, he felt an instant connection. Without hesitation, he opened his heart and home, giving our little terrier the loving, understanding environment he deserved.
Now, Patrick is living his best life, completely spoiled, just as he should be. He even has his own Facebook page to share his adventures! This truly special adoption reminds us that sometimes, the right match just takes time—but when it happens, it’s nothing short of magic.
Congratulations to both Patricks! We couldn’t be happier for this perfect pair. 💙🐾
