Adopted - Steve & Dave: A Rescue Meant to Be

Some dogs come into rescue with stories that break your heart, but their endings remind us why we do what we do. Steve and Dave, two terrified brothers, were deemed "unadoptable" by the shelter that found them. They were so scared that they trembled under their bed, avoiding all human contact. The shelter reached out to rescues, hoping someone would see past their fear and give them a chance at life. When we met them, we saw two souls who had never known kindness—but we also saw hope. There wasn’t a single mean bone in their bodies, just fear and uncertainty. We knew they deserved to live and to experience the love they had never known.

Understanding that sometimes bonded dogs need time apart to build confidence, we found two wonderful fosters who were willing to take them in separately. But for Steve and Dave, separation only made things worse. On the second day in his foster home, Steve escaped. His fosters were heartbroken, but they refused to give up. We all came together in a desperate search—posting flyers, tracking sightings, and even bringing Dave to help lure his brother back. Steve crossed highways, played with neighborhood dogs, and evaded every attempt to catch him. For two long weeks, he remained just out of reach.

Then, in a moment of pure magic, it finally happened. When Steve saw Dave sitting in a car, he ran straight to him and jumped in! The moment was surreal—after weeks of searching, Steve had come home, led by the unbreakable bond he shared with his brother.

But the story doesn’t end there. Steve’s foster family, deeply moved by everything these boys had been through, made the incredible decision to adopt both Steve and Dave! These brothers, once considered unadoptable, are now safe, loved, and finally part of a real family.

This rescue was truly a community effort, and we are beyond grateful to everyone who helped—especially the dedicated volunteers who searched for Steve, shared his story, and never lost hope. Special thanks to David Barryman at Finding Fido/Viewpoint Aerial Services for assisting in the search. And the biggest thank you of all to Steve and Dave’s new parents, who never gave up on them and let them steal their hearts.

It takes a village, and in this case, that village saved two lives. ❤️🐾
