RARE FIX
Spay & Neuter Program
The R.A.R.E spay/neuter program is for no- or low-income individuals to limit overpopulation in rural areas by decreasing "backyard breeding and accidental litters" that have become so common in agricultural areas in the South.
Please know that if you reach out to us for spay/neuter assistance, we will need to ask questions about your entire family of pets, including any unaltered animals, and may ask that you surrender some if their standard of care has become difficult for you to maintain.
*IMPORTANT*
This voucher is for spay/neuter only.
Medicine, vaccines, etc. are at your expense.
Please discuss the following with the clinic:
Food and water - ask when your pet should not have access to food or water prior to surgery (this may vary depending on the age of your pet)
The following are not included with the RARE FIX Voucher Program, but are crucial to your pet’s health:
Vaccines - ask what vaccines your pet should receive (this may vary depending on the age of your pet).
****Parvo/Distemper vaccines are vital to your dog's survival against parvo virus and distemper virus, both of which are prevalent in the area AND both are fatal.
Pain medicine - the clinic normally dispenses pain medicine to go home with the patient after surgery.
Heartworm Test - please speak to the clinic about heartworm testing and have your pet tested at least once per year (especially DOGS!)
Heartworm Prevention - please speak to the clinic about heartworm PREVENTION and how affordable it is to provide to your pet, especially compared to treatment if they become infected with heartworm disease. Heartworm disease is FATAL if left untreated.
FVRCP Vaccines - Very important for ALL KITTENS AND CATS to prevent upper respiratory illness and death
FeLV/FIV Test - please speak to the clinic about testing your CATS
Feline Leukemia Vaccine - IMPORTANT for OUTSIDE CATS
Bloodwork - it is always a good idea to have bloodwork run on your pet to check for any abnormalities, especially before surgery.
